Halloween

The caption to this great shot (not the one above, but the one linked) is "I really do love Halloween." Don't you? The person in the linked image quite regularly dresses in interesting costumes.

A toast to France

French Lolita is lovely -- and skilled at creating optical illusions.

Since Halloween is fast approaching, this seemed like an especially good time to point out that dressing up doesn't have to be scary.

Wow.

Zerophilia

This month, Showtime is running "Zerophilia," a sci-fi teen comedy movie about a person with a
"condition that the movie as well as the International Organization of Zerophiliacs claims affects approximately 1,000 or more people in the world, who have an extra "Z" chromosome. Following their first experience of sexual intercourse, Zerophiliacs begin to change gender whenever they are sexually aroused."
Here's the trailer from youtube:

The film's official website is still on-line.

In one scene, the main character is male, but starts to transform into a female while on a date with a female. In sum, he quickly develops realistic breasts. Otherwise, the filmmaker used male and female actors for the various roles.

Pennant Fever

It's baseball playoff time.

Did you know that baseball teams usually require their rookies to dress in drag as part of their initiation to the major leagues?

Here's a recent photo from the Tampa Bay Rays, one of last year's World Series competitors. David Price should have shaved.

None of the players I've seen in drag look as good as the gurl in the accompanying photo.

This cheerleader, though wearing an outfit for a different team (Dallas Cowboys), seems to share my joy for the victories.

If you like her look, just head to Flickr for a full front view, nice rear shot, and closeup of legs and boots. The leg shot may be my favorite, but you cannot really tell it is a cheerleader from that alone.

Impersonator Persona?

I've long been a fan of Grae Phillips. She looks divine, is a talented performer, and produces interesting artistic expressions of her femininity. Unfortunately, it does not seem that Grae performs live any more.

I wonder if Grae ever thought about becoming the next Jim Bailey?

Bailey remains a talented female impersonator (he still looks very youthful!), but became well-known in the 1970s and 1980s for his singing performances as Judy Garland, Barbara Streisand and other major stars. He even did Madonna.

This is one of my favorite videos, with Jim performing as Judy Garland:

Grae Phillips, by contrast, essentially created a new persona -- but has now apparently abandoned it save for internet purposes.

I say too bad, because Grae was talented and sexy:

Could Grae develop and perfect some impressions of female singers and make a good living performing them? Probably she could, but that would mean abandoning Montreal for the road and making other lifestyle choices that are hers alone.

Fans will have to be satisfied with the youtube archive of performances, though we would surely love to see some new videos of Grae singing.

Actually, these particular photos might not prove my point. Poke around on Belli's gallery to get a better idea of just how much he looks like Leslie Mann. Compare this photo of Mann to this one of Belli, for instance.

Mann's spouse, Judd Apatow, should cast Mann and Belli together in a film. Previously, one of Apatow's movies featured Jazzmun.

Willam dropped by this blog previously. What do you think of my suggestion?

At the movies

Currently, on youtube, viewers can find the entire film "Little Sister," featuring Jonathan Silverman as a college student who crossdresses for a fraternity prank. However, he stays en femme for a long period in order to be close to the girl of his dreams. The experience makes him a better person.

Thematically, the movie is not a lot different than "Tootsie" or "Nobody's Perfect."

Watching Roberta last night, I got to thinking about movies featuring guys in dresses. Of those with lengthy and plot-related content, which actors made the most convincing women? Which performances were in the best movies?

I'm not sure of the most convincing performance. Jaye Davidson was very good in "The Crying Game." After all, theater audiences audibly gasped when her genitalia were revealed. What are the other choices?

As for movies, I personally like "Just Like a Woman," though I haven't seen it in years. Youtube seems to have it as well. Last time I looked, the Adrian Pasdar performance wasn't available on DVD.

More recently, I enjoyed Neil Jordan's "Breakfast on Pluto," which featured Cillian Murphy in a fetching role:

Director Jordan also made "The Crying Game" and I've sometimes wondered why he twice connected "the troubles" in Ireland to transgender issues. Is he making a point I've missed?

What are other good choices for performances and films -- especially from the past few years? Readers, help me out!

TVs on TV: Dress to Impress

It takes a lot of courage to venture out in public -- congratulations, Heidi!

Reality TV

Many reality television programs are ending their seasons this week or next. I'm not sure any of them feature someone with legs as fantastic as Stacii Gayski. In this video from 2005, she and her dance partner won the "Dancing with the Drag Stars" competition:

TVs on TV: WKUK

Since I was a youngster, I've been infatuated with TVs on television. Lately, I've noticed that some members of the "Whitest Kids You Know" cast can make quite fetching women:

That image is a screen capture from this video, "You've Been Yellow Mustard-ed."

I had a very close friend in college with almost exactly that hairstyle.

Update: I'm probably going to make a series of posts on "TVs on TV." My earliest firm memory of a drag character was Dick Shawn in 1968 as Laura Winthrop on "The Lucy Show." The episode was "Lucy and the Pool Hustler," but I cannot find an image.

Prom queens

Me and Butterfly
Originally uploaded by whitneyarner
This weekend, I noticed a young couple obviously dressed for their high school prom. Naturally, that led my curious mind to the internet where I found at least one cd couple who apparently attended a prom together in 1999 (happy 10 year anniversary to the lovely couple). The photo depicts Whitney and "Butterfly." At Whitney's Flickr page, you can find a spread of a dozen photos of "My Drag Prom."

Where in the world is...

David Michaels?

Michaels played the teacher in the Aerosmith video "Livin' on the Edge" (appearing at about 3:00 into the video and again at around 5:50) and as Eric/Erica in the Gary Busey movie "Rough Draft" (also known as "Diary of a Serial Killer"). I think Michaels appears at about 1:04 of this clip. Here's a video capture of that moment:

The IMDB page for Michaels seems to be a blend of information from two performers with the same name.

Does anyone know whatever happened to David Michaels?

Abracadabra

Are these the same women?

Help me decide.

Youtube is currently hosting multiple parts of a feature film called "Abracadabra." Here's the description:
It's about four bumbling mobsters that face an identity crisis when they discover their fantasy woman is packing more than a garter under her mini-skirt. This "Tootsie meets The Sopranos" film features John Fiore (Brotherhood, The Sopranos), Lou Martini, Jr. (Law and Order SVU, The Sopranos), Tony V. (Brotherhood) and Nino Pepicelli (Stiffs).
The description is kind of similar to "Mob Queen," which I've never seen.

The fantasy woman's character is named "Abra Parkhurst," and she's pictured in the movie above, at left.

I viewed the opening credits in Part I and learned that only one other actor/actress is not identified in the paragraph quoted above -- Tara O'Brien. Here's what I found out after a search:
The actress found out about casting opportunities in Broadway's Victor/Victoria from an ad in Backstage. However her agent could not get her an audition.

"So I went to the open call and I went as a man. I didn't really think I was being that clever, but I was the only person there really dressed as a guy," she explains. "You had to do eight bars of your biggest belt. So I sang the eight bars in the Neil Simon Theatre in the dark. Then a voice barked out from the darkness, `Sing the whole thing.' So I sing and this lone applause comes out of the darkness. Out of that darkness walks Blake Edwards and he said: `Well that was good and you look like a guy. Can you walk like a guy?' So he had me walking across the stage as a man."
Hmmmm.

The photo on the right above is Tara O'Brien (she's on the left with Anne Runolfsson playing the title character) touring with "Victor/Victoria" in 1998. Obviously, she wasn't playing the gender-bending lead role at that time. Is this the same woman?

Is O'Brien now a woman playing a man playing a woman?

Missing...

Is it possible to miss someone that you don't really know?

For years, I've appreciated the beauty of Natalya Sereshka on the internet.

Her old website no longer has a complete set of photos, but it used to have a great collection. Yahoo has changed its service so much, that her page doesn't really have any information or photos. I read along as she dipped a toe into blogging -- but that didn't seem to be for her.

Naty hasn't updated her flickr pics since just before Halloween

Perhaps Nata1ya is most active at myspace, but her private profile excludes the curious outside world.

I miss the public Natalya!

Brian Zembic

Do you ever wonder what became of Brian Zembic? He's the guy who got breast implants on a bet in 1997. He had to keep them at least a year -- and still had them at least 8 years later. In 1999, he appeared on "The Man Show" and revealed them to the world (with bandaids over his nipples).
“I’ve got to say, I like them. They’re mine, they’re me. What can I say?”

He admits to wearing a bra and shaving his chest. I wonder if he ever dresses from head-to-toe?

Haleyville

Staci Lana at the wonderful Femulate has been blogging about "womanless" beauty pageants, including one apparently held regularly in Haleyville, Alabama (near Muscle Shoals).

After a little digging, I discovered that Haleyville is something of a hotbed for these pageants. Not to sound catty, but the contestants in the local Shriners pageant last October were not as pretty as the high school maidens (who have youth on their side). But the older generation does have video.

Rebecca Glasscock

RuPaul's Drag Race is down to three finalists and I've felt since the first week that Rebecca Glasscock was the favorite to win. She's beautiful.

The other finalists are also lovely and I would not be surprised if any of them won the competition. I don't watch that many reality programs, but I suppose the nastiness expressed towards Rebecca is normal.

To my eye, Nina Flowers would be gorgeous without the tattoos -- and with hair. I'm not a fan of the Sinéad look.

Aubrey Frost

Aubrey Frost is a princess on-line, but in real-life she is probably just a regular Jo.

I'm a little worried about her right now because her main website is down.
Hi. I'm going through a lot right now and I've decided that for the time being I am going to put my website on hold. This is not a purge.

I am still reachable through email. My email address is [withheld].

I'm extremely grateful for the people who have supported me, given me advice or just been there to say hello. Thank you so much.

See you soon!
Aubrey recently went out in public for the first time -- and even more recently had a lot of electrolysis work.

That could all be fine, but she's also married and has a child.

Somethings up and I hope she's well.

Update: Aubrey's Flickr site now restricts viewing and the myspace page has only one photo. I hope the beautiful full size pic I originally posted here returns soon.

Update 2 (August 2012): Jo has apparently abandoned her public accounts and removed photos from various old websites and social platforms. I like to think that she'll contact me on Facebook some day, confident that I will respect her privacy. Her public persona was once so important, but she has obviously decided to be more secretive now. Mentally, I like to picture her living her dream, growing out her lovely red hair, and spending quality time with her children. Maybe this minute she is feeling beach sand between her toes or enjoying a sunset somewhere.

Jessica Trance

If you are not familiar with Jessica Trance, check out her website right now.

Hunt around long enough and you notice something nice -- Jessica is losing weight and she looks great. Just compare some of her recent videos to her older ones.

Jessica wears female masks, but she also used to wear something called a "belly mask." Not anymore. She doesn't need it.

Her new form is hot!

Why this blog?

I like to surf the web, and when I do, I usually want to tell someone about what I've found. And sometimes, I want to add just a little bit of my own opinion.

That's why I started this blog.

I'll whisper some gossip and you can decide for yourself if you want to listen.
